ADU Survives Rig Fire

Houston, TX - May 23, 2012
Azonix today received a damaged, but functional ADU (Azonix Drilling Unit) from a customer whose rig caught on fire. The customer stated that "this was the only electronic item on the rig still working after the fire was put out. We are impressed with this unit as others of the same function that cost more were a total loss on the rig."

The ADU remained functional (Photo 2) after the stress of the fire which melted and distorted the cover lens (Photos 1 & 3) and dislodged the silicon seal. Aside from the cosmetic issues noted, the Azonix repair technicians found no other issues with the unit.
The Azonix Drilling Unit was developed as a cost effective directional drilling display to help the driller validate the azimuth and inclination. The ADU was designed to meet tough environmental challenges as demonstrated by this unique video. Click Here

Azonix successfully re-qualifies MIL-S-901D testing and MIL- STD-461E on the MP2030C product offering

Comments from the HMI Product Manager:

“We are sensitive to the balance between the Navy demand of long-term product support and the natural occurrence of obsolescence of components in the computer industry. Our design philosophy is modular to be able to adapt newer high-performance processors, components that go obsolete, or new devices without requiring a major design change.”

“Eight years after the launch of the MP2030C Azonix upgraded some key components in the platform. We re-qualified the system for shock and EMI/RFI. Our goal this time around was to push the limit and try to pass the light-weight shock test hard-mounted directly to the bulkhead as compared to using shock mounts. The ProPanel® systems are designed to meet extreme environmental conditions, therefore we continuously strive to push the capability to our customers benefit.”

Azonix qualified the MP2500C for Navy MIL-S-901D Grade B. The system was exposed to the shock light-weight hammer test hard-mounted to the bulkhead. The test engineer specified that the system can easily be modified to meet Grade A, with a minor design change in the packaging of the power supply.
