Billerica, MA (July 31, 2007) Azonix Corporation, a leading provider of complex customized solutions that satisfy even the most challenging performance requirements announced that the Naval Sea Systems Command and Northrop Grumman Corp., Sperry Marine in Charlottesville, VA., will begin installing the Azonix Nautilus 20” Smart Display with integrated computer on the AN/BPS 15 and 16 navigation radar system in the Navy’s fast attack and Trident missile submarines. The smart displays provide both navigation and collision avoidance visualization from the radar sources and are used in unison with the Electronic Chart Display and Information System – Navy (ECDIS-N). The Nautilus utilizes a custom KVM switch to change between the two radar signals and can be either console or bulkhead mounted.
The Nautilus significantly enhances ship safety during surfaced and submerged operations in high contact density environments. Its design provides for high-performance, low power consumption and low thermal output in a small footprint, which is optimal for a shipboard installation. The Nautilus is designed to meet or exceed all required MIL-STDs for shock, vibration, salt, fog, drip, fungus, acoustic noise and EMI test.
“Because of various submarine operating characteristics and the challenging environment in which they operate,” said Kevin McCarthy, Azonix VP of Sales and Marketing, they rely on acquisition, visualization and communication of vast amount of real time data. The unit we designed for this installation is robust enough to perform graphics intense applications, giving the Commanding Officer and crew accurate real time data to safely maneuver the ship”
The Nautilus uses an open architecture to support replacement components and newer technologies. The result is an extended life cycle in comparison to any other rugged computers in the industry.
